The core problem: Cities’ downtowns are hollowing out as suburbs bustle

The study conducted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Business Data Lab shows a new economic pattern emerging in metropolitan areas across Canada; smaller towns and suburbs within commutable distance of major metropolitan cities are witnessing a growth in traffic. Cities, such as Niagara Falls, Trois-Rivieres and Kingston, are expected to experience a surge in Foot Traffic, leading to a rise in economic activity and business opportunities, including the emergence of more services like restaurants and retail stores.
